Enabling data driven decision making across 3M HIS

The Data Lake was built for scalable cost-effectiveness and faster data access.3M had vast data resources which were largely legacy-based and sparsely distributed. This distributed data largely consisting of XML files kept in silos. This produced insights that were of an inferior and inconsistent quality as the data was not optimally utilized. At best, the organization could have snapshots of their customer’s performance but, these snapshots could not be connected to create a 360 degree view of operations. Further, with such inefficient data management practices, the company was not well placed to brace for the challenges that the transforming healthcare market had to offer. The result? Poor services to customers and information that both the providers and payers couldn’t rely upon, reducing revenue across the board.
